CNN host forces GOP lawmaker to admit he voted for tax hike in Trump's bill
A Republican congressman was forced to admit that he had voted for President Donald Trump's budget bill containing a provision that he now wants to repeal.The One Big Beautiful Bill Act contains a tax increase for gamblers, who must now pay income taxes on 10 percent of their losses, and Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV) is joining an effort by Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) to repeal the provision, although he was the only Nevada lawmaker to vote in favor of it."That was put in in the Senate, I did not vote for that," Amodei told "CNN News Central." "Nobody from Nevada in the House voted for that, so now the question when it comes back is how do we fix that, and so we moved the bill because, on balance, but I can assure you that I expect the Senate through the unanimous consent process, and, if not, we've already introduced a bill, and working across the aisle with Dina Titus to get that fixed, you shouldn't be taxed on income that wasn't really income, regardless of who you are."CNN's John Berman was perplexed by the congressman's explanation. "Sorry, didn't you vote to pass this bill after it came back from the Senate?" Berman said.Amodei told the anchor that he wasn't willing to risk the bill's failure over his opposition to the provision targeting gamblers."I voted to pass it back because it had that in it, but I wasn't going to kill the whole bill over something that we think we can fix," Amodei said. "So if your question is, do I support that provision? No."Berman wasn't satisfied with that answer."But you did vote to pass," Berman said. "It wasn't enough to keep you from passing the bill?"
