Is Racial Discrimination Being Legalized in the Refugee Program?

President Donald Trump announced that the number of refugees admitted into the country will be drastically reduced to just 7,500 people for fiscal year 2026, the lowest level since 1980. The previous cap, set by former President Joe Biden, was 125,000. The problem is that this seeks a type of ethnic cleansing within the refugee [...]

'Messed up': Elise Stefanik's governor campaign stumbles at the gate with 'botched' site

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has officially launched her campaign for governor of New York — but almost immediately, it got off to a rocky start as when her campaign website first went live, it was riddled with errors, incomplete, included nonsensical and placeholder text, and the images were from her congressional campaign rather than her new gubernatorial campaign. As of press time, Stefanik's website has been updated and appears to now be filled out with correct text, sections, and images — but the first iteration, launched before being fixed, was promptly spotted by a number of Democratic campaign officials and broadcast to resounding mockery on social media."'Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet,'" noted New York Democratic Party rapid response director Addison Dick on X, indicating the stock Latin placeholder text on the landing page. "Nice website! @EliseStefanik's botched launch continues." He added, "It's not just Latin – Stefanik's botched website also features classic 'American values' like: 'Family first trust'; 'Will alternative'; 'Legacy planningegal issues.'""Really messed up campaign website for Team Stefanik. She’s been teasing this run for months!" wrote Watertown Daily Times reporter Alex Gault, who covers local news in Stefanik's congressional district."Elise Stefanik had 6 months+ to plan today's launch and her website still isn't done," wrote Democratic Governors Association communications official Kevin Donohoe."10/10 work here by Stefanik," wrote Gov. Kathy Hochul's communications director, Sarafina Chitika.Stefanik, who was previously considered for a Trump administration ambassadorship before being dropped over concerns about holding her seat in a special election, is hoping to build on the 2022 gubernatorial contest, when Trump-loyalist Congressman Lee Zeldin, now administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, held Hochul to an unexpectedly close single-digit race.

Scheming aides have discovered a Trump quirk — and are exploiting it: biographer

President Donald Trump is being exploited by scheming aides who capitalize on the fact that he doesn't absorb essential information, his biographer said.Michael Wolff — who spent nine months embedded in the White House in 2017 — told the Daily Beast he quickly discovered that the president doesn't have any interest in learning what he needs to know. Instead, he relies on those around him to be up to speed.'He doesn't read," White House staffers told the author. It's “the most information-intensive job in the world,” Wolff said, but “you can’t give him things to read, not even a paragraph.”Wolff said that, from his first conversation with Trump, he noticed the president talking "inordinately long" to cover up his lack of detailed knowledge.Former White House strategist Steve Bannon reportedly described Trump as being "in a lifelong war against information."Wolff claimed that the dynamic had led to those "smart in managing Trump" exploiting his lack of focus by pushing agendas in areas he doesn't pay attention to.Trump's morning routine itself reveals his information consumption style. According to Wolff, he typically begins by having aides "rehash all of the television shows—which he has seen—and then analyze why whatever he has seen is, in fact, good for him." He doesn't start working in the Oval Office until around 11 a.m., he said.Wolff described Trump's inner circle as a "world of would-be teachers' pets" who are constantly looking to take advantage of his disinterest. He noted that for Trump, "Bad news must become good news... and bad news that cannot become good news, then necessarily becomes a conspiracy against him."Regarding New York's new mayor Zohran Mamdani, Wolff predicted an interesting dynamic: "I think Mamdani is in a perfect position to make Donald Trump his foil, rather than the other way around."

'Remain strong': Democrats celebrate 'repudiation' of Trump after election wins

WASHINGTON — Democratic Senators were in good spirits on Capitol Hill on Wednesday after a bloodbath election in several states around the country. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) heavily supported New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who hammered an economic message over and over again. Speaking to Raw Story, Sanders said that this is the playbook for Democrats around the country. "In my view, the Democrats have got to remain strong and continue to defend working families, not allow premiums to double or triple," he said. "Now, I understand there's some discussion — bipartisan discussion — going on if they want a vote. I'm not sure what the vote means. If there is a vote here that will, in fact, extend the tax credits and get the commitment of the Speaker of the House, that he will support it, get the commitment of the president of the United States, that he will support it, then we're making progress. But if there is a vote, just a vote, that means nothing, because it doesn't go any place.”The result, he said is that premiums double and 15 million people lose healthcare. All the while, there is a tax cut for the super-rich, he explained. "That's a fraudulent approach," Sanders continued. "They can vote on something, but the vote is going to mean something. That means a commitment on the speaker of the House that he will support the legislation that. The president will sign it."He thinks that voters are sending the message, "'Please, Democrats — who haven't been strong in the past — stand tall now. Protect us.' I mean, we are hearing horrible stories. People with chronic illnesses.”“Some of you may have heard the expression, ‘when we fight, we win.’ You ever hear that? Well, when you cave, you lose." Sanders closed. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) thinks the success is more about "a total repudiation of Donald Trump and his authoritarian actions and his refusal to deal with the issue that's on people's minds, which are the increasing prices and costs.""So to that extent, yes," he said, it strengthens the argument for Democrats continuing to fight for healthcare subsidies. “I'd say one good thing, because of the election, the president seems to notice that we have this issue,” Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) said about the health care debate. “And my hope is he gets more engaged on it and is willing to have a real negotiation with Democratic and Republican leadership in the Congress. That would be a real positive thing. That's the quickest way to solve this issue and get out of this shutdown.”In Pennsylvania, the Democratic judges on the state Supreme Court kept their seats, and a transgender woman was elected the mayor of Downingtown, a small suburb of Philadelphia. Raw Story asked Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) about the election results after he had spent weeks complaining Democrats should end the shutdown. Just three days ago, he said Democrats should "own the shutdown." However, many Democrats have said that it proves they were right to stick tight and keep fighting. “So they think we should continue to keep it shut?” Fetterman asked. “Well, yeah, I'm not shocked to hear that. I think it's wrong to shut it down," Fetterman said. “I've been very consistent through this since March and everything. So yeah."Raw Story asked if the politics have changed. "It's like, that's what I'm saying. It's not a sh--y game show, you know? It's like, it's wrong," Fetterman said before calling out his fellow Democrats. "Do they depend on SNAP? Probably not."
